Albuquerque, New Mexico - (Ass Mess): Superstitious New Mexicans are blaming today's lunar eclipse on a bizarre accident involving a Rio Rancho motorcycle police officer who suffered a fatal crash while riding in President Bush's motorcade on Monday.
Officer Germaine Casey's motorcycle initially appeared to be riding as normal when it suddenly hit a kerb and then a tree at an intersection where the road at the airport goes into an underground parking garage.
This is the second time in less than a year that a motorcycle police officer has died while riding as part of Bush's official motorcade. In November 2006 officer Steve Favela from Honolulu was involved in a fatal crash as the presidential motorcade made its way across Hickam Air Force Base.
And in February 2006 a Bernalillo police officer, Sergeant Jerry Nixon sustained a broken nose, cuts, bruises and other injuries when his Harley Davidson crashed while he was helping escort Bush's motorcade on Interstate 25.
Some motorcycle cops are now becoming extremely wary of escorting the Presidential limo after initially deriding the 'dumbass' hex rumors that have now taken on some gravitas with the latest incident in Albuquerque.
"It's as if he (the President) exudes some kind of spooky aura," one outrider said today.
