New York - (Ass Mess): Oh the joy of finding a red-hot First Amendment specialist New York lawyer who agrees that $40 million is the right kind of price tag on a man's hurt feelings!
And how easily the beginings of a smile can be restored to the face of an ousted shock jock like Don Imus as he hires the world famous attorney Martin Garbage to sue his ex-bosses at CBS for all that moolah in compensation for the ingominy of getting booted off his long time radio show.
The legal argument at the heart of the suit is that CBS broke a contractual agreement by failing to issue a mandatory verbal and/or written warning to Imus that his conduct on air had been a dismissable offence.
Imus got the boot within days of making wholly daft and inappropriate racist and sexist remaks which offended his audience, his employers and most of all the show's financial sponsors into withdrawing their $$$s in patronage.
But Garbage may have a a sound legal point: firing an employee and bypassing contractual agreements on what constituters a disciplinary offense is one big deal in the compensation stakes. And Imus has vowed not to go down without one hell of a fight.
Legal papers are expected to be filed before the New York Superior Court later this week.
In the meantime Imus is rumored to be writing the script to his very own bio-pic whose ending in a New York court of law sees him collect a whacking great big cheque and the re-instatement of his old job.
Ah! the stuff of dreams....
