Washington DC - (Rotters): Buoyed by the public's rapturous response to John Edwards' presidential campaigning despite his wife's ominous cancer relapse and staggered by the enthusiasm of his increased financial backing, Tony Snow's wife Jill Walker has announced that she too is now in the running for the 2008 presidential race.

Her husband has just stepped down as the White House spokesman for the Bush Administration after tests revealed an old cancer had returned and was ravaging his body.

Surgeons had already cut out large parts of his digestive system a number of years ago but the pesky blighter has staged a come-back.

"But that's absolutely no reason for me to give up our dream and start campaigning in earnest," said Jill Walker Snow.

Mrs Snow has confirmed that her election campaign would continue unabated. She said both she and her husband were "very optimistic about this".

"It's what Tony wants, it's what the kids want and hey! It's just what I want too.

"So the campaign goes on. The campaign goes on strongly," Mrs Snow told reporters at a news conference in Virginia, with her chemo-blasted husband Tony standing at her side holding her hand and beaming with pride at the selfless professional decision his spouse had just made.

"I know that the disease is incurable but treatable, and that Tony can live with it for as long as he is alive," said Mrs Snow in a logic-defying statement full of medical promise.

"The bottom line is his cancer is back. We are very optimistic about this because, as you know, this is a massive opportunity for us, a real God-send.

"Having been through some struggles together in the past, we know the key is to keep your head up when taking the medication. Otherwise it just dribbles down the chin and can look undignified."

Her husband then chirped in that he did not have any external symptoms of the disease like big ugly sores that might upset voters.

"I don't look sickly, I don't feel sickly. I am as ready today to take on the supporting role for my wife's campaign as any husband ever could be."

Elizabeth Edwards is 59.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
