Perhaps it began with Clarence Thomas, the porn loving, Woman-chasing Supreme Court nominee. Once Clarence, the least qualified Justice of the Supreme Court since Judge Wapner, managed to squeak through, republicans began looking for Minority candidates who shared their anti-minority perspective.
Colin Powell climbed the military ladder yet failed to advocate for African-American rights. Condoleeza Rice made to Secretary of State while still dreaming that she was Bush's white wife. And of course Alberto Gonzalez gets to be the first Hispanic US Attorney general while approving torture of non-white cultures.
Republican master-mind, Krawl Rover explained the strategy: "People used to think that race and ethnicity were connected to solidarity with one's own people. Republicans like me discovered that greed, powerlust and pride are more central to human strivings than identity, friendship or family. Dangle a fancy title with plenty of green attached and you may as well be baiting the trap with watermelon or Huevos Rancheros. . . Minorities are equal to majorities, they are all grabbers!"
