High levels of sildenafil citrate, more commonly known by it's brand name, Viagra, have been detected in drinking water in upstate New York. The source has been traced by environmental officials to pollution of the river Niagara downstream of Buffalo, NY, which is well known as the erectile dysfunction capital of the United States.
Civic leaders in Niagara Falls, once a popular destination for honeymooners, are hoping the news will revive the city's popularity with newlyweds. Meanwhile, internet wags are making the most of the reports.
One site that runs an on-line limerick competition posted the following earlier today:
- A fresh ecological crisis
Is news that rarely surprises
Now there's so much Viagra
In the river Niagara
The falls are called Niagara Rises
