image for Drunk float drivers invade parade
The calm before the storm

Canton Ohio, police were alerted to trouble during a local parade when they were inundated with 911 phone calls.

It seems parade goers became concerned when two floats started drag racing each other down main street.

It was horrible said one on watcher, decorations and people were flying everywhere.

When local police caught up with the floats the men were apparently drunk as skunks. Both the drivers involved had open containers of liquor in the drivers compartment.

One of the drivers had his entire family on the float he was driving while under the influence.

The trouble started when parade organizers were short float drivers, out of sheer desperation they found float pilots in a local tavern. From there thing went from bad to worst.

They weren't drunk when we checked their drivers licenses one organizer offered in defense.

Both men will be facing a long list of charges ranging from kidnapping to DUI.

There were no serious injuries caused by this unusual situation.
