Chicago IL: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has to deal with a high murder rate in the inner-city, a school teacher strike and now illegal horse meat restaurants.
Horse meat slaughter (including government inspection) is again legal in the USA as of November 2011, as a five-year ban on horse slaughter houses is over thanks to Congress and Rahm's former boss President Obama. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has indicated wild horses are off-limits.
However, Illinois has a law banning human consumption of horse meat. Eating horse meat is virtually non-existent in the USA, where these animals are treated as beloved pets and iconic symbols of the old-west. "Mustangs" are American cultural icons!
The Chick-fil-A episode pales compared to efforts to root out these illegal dining establishments. Several jalapeño cheeseburger joints were raided and found to have back rooms that catered to equine tastes. The alleged chefs ultimately also confessed to being involved with taco cafes that had back rooms that served dog meat!
The Chicago murder rate hopefully will decline, the Chicago school teacher strike will be settled and horse meat lovers will have to travel to Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri or Iowa.
