Police today closed of a section of the M1 due to a three vehicle pile up at junction 26. In atrocious conditions, a fish lorry from Grimsby skidded on the wet road and blocked the carriageway. A tanker carrying cooking oil from Liverpool braked but not quick enough and ploughed into a lorry carrying potatoes and peas from Lincoln creating a huge explosion.
Emergency services were soon on the scene as 20 tonnes of cooking oil mixing with 10 tonnes of potatoes and peas and 6 tonne of fish created one hell of a catastrophe. The mixture of cooking oil, potatoes and fish produced an aroma that wafted on to the nearby A610.
A police spokesman for Nottinghamshire Police said this was carnage on a grand scale but the bright side of the incident was we were able to sell fish, chips and peas for £1 a portion from a caravan on the A610. He went on to say thank god all the drivers escaped without injury.
