A new development on Britain's roads is causing concern in Whitehall. A truck has gone missing 'somewhere in the Midlands' after falling down a hole in the road.
Passers by looked in shocked horror as the truck carrying a load of furniture plunged into the abyss which is on the A6578 - known as the 'Terror Run' by truckers.
Police would not confirm today that the driver had crawled from the hole complaining that no one had put up a warning that the road was in need of hole filling.
Police have now put up signs but as one local put it 'that's like shutting the door after the horse has shitted'.
There are bound to be repercussions in Parliament and a row is certain over the cuts that have caused Local Authorities to overlook holes under their noses.
Ed Miliband, sensing the Government is vulnerable over the issue, declared that he would seek an urgent debate on unfilled holes - 'this is wholly unacceptable' he said.
As we go to Press rumours of several cars being lost near the Scottish border are coming in.
So, folks, be careful how you drive and look out for areas of the road that are no longer there!
