Voters in the UK have voted decisively by 69% to reject Lib Dem plans to replace their voting system.
The Lib Dems had proposed "AV" or "Alternative Voting". In this system, the voter votes for the candidate who they want to lose the election. For example, given a choice of three candidates, Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem, the candidate should choose the one he would never vote for - usually the Lib Dems. Then, the candidate with the least number of votes will win the election.
It is thought that some voters were confused as to whether AV was in place during the vote for AV, which could have led to the result being reversed.
The Lib Dems want to push for further alternative voting systems to increase their chances of being elected in future. Another option they considered adopting which has been very successful in North Korea was "Extreme Voting", where the voters only have one box on their voting slip - for the Lib Dems.
