Following Nick Clegg's declaration that the NHS will not be privatised under any conditions, the National Union of Students have reacted: "That's it then - the NHS will not be privatised. We believe him."
Their reaction is at odds with Nick Clegg previously declaring that his party would never condone an increase in University fees. As soon after the coalition took power it became evident that the Liberal Democrats would go along with an increase.
The whole thing became a joke when it became clear that most Universities would be looking to charge £9000 per year - almost three times the previous level. Clegg justified his change of heart by saying that the country was in a much worse financial state that he had believed when the promise had been made.
This prompted the recent student protests and associated riots.
Now Nick Clegg is adamant that the NHS will not be privatised.
Students say they are relieved that a promise to safeguard the NHS has come from such a reputable source. "At least all our medical students can stop worrying that they will have done all their training and run up massive debts just before the government awards key NHS contracts to the lowest international bidder."
