Daily Smearer reporters give the thumbs-up to the smoking gun theory

London - (Licence-to-Grill Mess): Cops have refused to say if a service-issue revolver was found in Gareth Williams' Pimlico apartment.

Reports that his '00' status had only just been conferred are also at odds with the discreet, geekish profile issued to the media.

But investigative journalism sources reckon his Pimlico apartment may have been fitted with MI6 covert surveillance equipment 'for his own safety' some time in January.

"If so, then it could have been an Internal Affairs hit, dressed up as a whodunnit mystery caper," a Daily Smearer reporter commented today.

"What better way to go undercover for a long period of time than staging such a very public fiasco?"

Criminologists are divided on this particular branch of conspiracy theory but are not discounting the possibility that a 'vanishing act' plotline was lifted straight from UK TV series Spooks.

An FBI probe at the NSA's Fort Meade base to which Williams had been seconded is still in lockdown.
