image for Another nail in Kate and Gerry coffin as Maddie-slam website cleared of fraud
Cops trawled through Bennet's affairs for six months before exonerating him today

Essex - (Whodunnit Mess): The founder of a website questioning Madeleine McCann abduction theories has seen fraud allegations scotched by Essex police.

Retired lawyer Tony Bennet's Madeleine Foundation regularly slammed Kate and Gerry McCann for refusing to take part in a Portuguese police reconstruction of little Maddie's vanishing act.

Today he was cleared of embezzling two £1,622.50 corporate checks after a six month police probe.

Bennet regularly questioned the special treatment afforded to the McCanns by British and US politician whom they lobbied.

Fundraising by celebrities on behalf of the Find Madeleine Campaign was another of Bennet's bugbears after large donations were used to pay the couple's mortgage and other living expenses.

Attempts to shut down his website added to Bennet's belief that he was being targeted for siding with skeptics who do not accept Maddie is still alive.

Rumors that Bennet will now seek a malicious prosecution against his detractors have been strongly denied.
