Ebeneezer Scrooge has had a government career almost as short as David Laws, after he was sacked today by David Cameron only days after his appointment . The reason for Mr Scrooge's early departure from the cabinet are unclear - but we understand that his past as a fictional character in a victorian novel were at the heart of the decision.
The Prime minister said in a press conference:
"Clearly Mr Scrooge's textuality is his own affair. We are, I hope, well passed the era when people were hounded out of office because of textual indiscretions. But there are serious questions to be asked about Mr Scrooge's mortgage business that he ran - as well as his relationship with a crippled boy, a certain Tiny Tim."
This is a worrying development for a number of fictional characters who have been brought into the government in this era of "new politics". Most concerned must be a recently ennobled peer, of Romanian extraction, who has been working at extracting blood out of benefit stones. However, Count (now Lord) Dracula was not available for comment
