With news fresh off the press that Wyclef Jean is contemplating running for President of Haiti, it comes as no surprise that Mark King, lead vocalist and bassist in the band Level 42, is running for Governor of the Isle of Wight.
King was born in Cowes in 1958, and spent his formative years on the island. It is this connection that gave him the idea.
"I were sitting at home, and read about Wyclef, and just thought 'why not?' really," he told us.
He already has plans in line for his new position of power, should he get it.
"I were thinking of pushing for a new motorway to connect one side of the island to the other, and also an international airport. Maybe we could call it the Mark King International, like the Lennon one in Liverpool!" he told us.
The funky bass-slapper lead his band to success in the 80's with hits like 'Sun Going Down (Living It Up)' and 'Lessons In Love' and they still perform to this day. "I may have to take time off from the grockle-tin (tour bus) for a while, but I aim to give this new position my all," he says.
"And of course, Level 42 can headline the festival every year! Everyone wins!" he blurted.
No they don't, Mark. Islanders, start worrying.
