A prison inmate has been removed from kitchen duties in HMP Wakefield after causing grievous bodily harm to the pot washer because of mishearing a culinary proverb in his youth.
Remembering his mother say "You have to break a few legs to make omelettes" he took a rolling pin and smashed in both knee caps of his fellow inmate whilst preparing breakfast last Tuesday.
The Commission for Proverbs and Phrases have been enlisted by HM Prison Service to investigate whether other sayings could be misinterpreted leading to violence.
In addition to the dangerous saying regarding eggs, "Pot calling kettle black" has been banned on racist grounds.
