There were amazing scenes on the M4 yesterday immediately after Steady Eddie, HGV driver for only a week, succeeded in over-taking another HGV inside 30 seconds and without holding up any other drivers.
This amazing and unheard of occurrence was witnessed from some distance away by Mildred Mattacorn in her VW Polo.
"I was travelling westbound near Swindon on a long straight stretch and around a mile in front of me I saw Steady Eddie's bright green lorry signal that he wanted to pull out and there was nobody anywhere near! He then gently eased into the middle lane and within 30 seconds smoothly passed the other HGV and then signalled to pull in again afterwards.
"I was so amazed that I nearly crashed my Polo! I have been driving for 30 years and seen thousands of HGV's pull out without warning, take miles to overtake one another or fail to do so and cause huge queues behind them. This is the first time I have ever seen a HGV driver ovetake in such a carefula and considerate manner."
This reporter tried to contact Steady Eddie at his firm's address, but was politely told that he no longer worked for them any longer as his licence had been revoked.
