1000 days and 48 unanswered questions.
In an attempt to raise money for their dwindling "Madeleine" fund the McCanns have come up with a novel way to raise their profile. The answers to the 48 questions that Kate McCann refused to answer are being attached to 48 of 1000 of the lanterns being released to mark 1000 days since their daughter Madeleine was last seen.
The McCanns, who are hosting a lavish banquette to mark the occasion, denied mocking the Portuguese police by the gesture. "The answers will be released and they can catch them if they can" said a spokesman for the couple.
The dinner, which will cost £150 a head, is to be attended by millionaires and celebrities and a good time for all is guaranteed. Gerry McCann was disappointed that he couldn't get Elton John to do a turn but there will be an auction after the meal with a child's soft toy expected to attract a large amount of interest.
The couples spokesman dismissed claims that the banquette was tasteless. "The Kensington Roof Gardens are renowned for their excellent food" he said, and added "This is not just about the McCann's fund, half the money will go to charity".
