In a surprise move council chiefs announced today that Worcester was to be twinned with Gazza.
Worcester is well known for its cathedral, the river and county cricket's most scenic (and flooded) ground.
Gazza is well known for drinking, wife beating and sometimes for playing football.
Local Mayor Reginald Bumfluff said that he believed the arrangement would be beneficial to both parties. "Everytime he is mentioned in the news we will get a mention. High profile, that's the name of the game. And we have arranged it so that he never has to pay for a drink in any of our bars."
The news has shocked many in football. "He's got a twin, you say? If only I had known. Think what we could have done with two of them at Italia 90" said Sir Booby Robson "Oh...Worther's Original, young man?"
It is believed that a special clinic for washed-up ex-footballers will open soon in Worcester. Gazza could then be nearer to his new twin on a regular basis.
Gazza is currently negotiating with Clax Mifford, celebrity publicist,in a bid to get back at his ex-wife Bambi Gascoinge.
It has also been announced that Nuneaton is to twin with Paul Merson.
Sir Booby Robson is 103.
