Consternation today at the London zoo when Zorba the Greek elephant appeared to have forgotten where his enclosure was, after working hard all day picking up logs with his powerful trunk.
It seems that a befuddled Zorba lost all sense of direction and at the end of his log picking shift headed not for his own enclosure, but the lion enclosure.
The incident was soon put right when a keeper slapped Zorba vigorously about the face with a small tree branch in order to redirect him, a ploy which was successful.
But surely this gives the lie to the old adage that an elephant never forgets.
The lion just couldn't be arsed and continued sleeping.
