It has just been announced that after weeks of careful intelligence gathering, the metropolitan police have found the gangland mastermind who has been producing counterfeit £1 coins.
During a dawn raid on 10 Downing Street; armed officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) found a number of items which are suspected to have been used to produce vast quantities of illegal coinage. Police have removed a furnace and an unspecified amount of base metal which may have been part of the production process.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that as much as £2.5 billion coins have been manufactured from the premises in the last three months. It is unclear how this money has been spent although experts fear the money may have been laundered by way of the purchase of two struggling banks.
One man is believed to have been arrested at the scene. Police will not release his name, although he is described as being a rather dour 57 year old Scot who is fast losing control.
