Dale Winton has announced that he is to present a special episode of his quiz show Supermarket Sweep from the Gaza Strip.
"When we saw the scenes of thousands of Palestinians swarming into Egypt to stock up on basic supplies which they just can't get normally we said that's what the show needs. I know that for many people these scenes represent the desperation of a nation that has been cruelly treated by a seemingly sadistic and militaristic Israel and where the situation is aggravated by the short sighted aggression of the Hama government.
"But, for me, it is a great chance to film an episode of supermarket sweep and relaunch my failing career."
ITV, who are shooting the episode, brushed off criticisms of tastelessness: "Hey - it's good television. Daytime TV quizzes need tarting up - and having contestants playing for prizes that their life literally depends on should do the trick."
A spokesperson for the Palestinian Government said:"Supermarket sweep will be shot here - and so will Mr Winton. Ha Ha Ha"
