2012 Olympics may be cancelled after European Commission ruling

The London Olympics scheduled for 2012 may have to be cancelled if the European Commission is successful in the legal challenge it is bringing against the UK government.

The EC has decided that the games contravene European laws covering sexual discrimination. A spokesperson in Brussels said: "It has come to our attention that throughout the games men and women are segregated and therefore not given the same opportunities. This is clearly in contravention of our sexual discrimination laws."

The UK has been given a stark choice. Either all events will become mixed in all sports that form part of the Olympics or the EC will invoke all manner of arcane legislation to stop the games taking place."

A spokesperson for the IOC said:"Well, if London can't do it we'll have to give it to someone who can. We understand that France takes no notice of the European Commission, so maybe Paris will end up with it anyway."

Lord Coe, former Conservative MP, said: "Oh well - we tried."

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
