Tower Hamlet's firefighters have deemed their "youth education programme" a success after the first week. The idea of the programme is to meet with youngsters and let them experience firefighting at close quarters, hoping that they will understand the problems caused by hoax calls.
The Chief firefighter told us. "They're not bad kids. Young Heywood Jablome told me that although he would never consider doing it he now realised what problems were caused when kids leave cats in trees."
He continued: "The kids even volountered to make the tea all week." The chief then had to rush off and join the queue at the toilets.
I managed to catch up with young Wayne Kerr who told me that he has few friends and usually ended up playing with himself, I must say there was a tear in my eye as I watched him hacksaw through the legs of an old ladder.
