Package "Rain Experience" holidays taking in waterfalls, a male voice choir and the "Miss Sheep 2014" competition are to be advertised by the Welsh Eisteddfod promotion board. If the weather turns dry, tourists will be given a Woolworths voucher for the full cost of the holiday instead.
Promotions in minimum rainfall countries have been billboarded over the Christmas period, a traditional time to book holidays in the sun.
An anorak wearing poet yesterday commented, "Well if they can reverse the trend from lying on sunny beaches to walking through rainy bogs it will certainly do the Country good, and may be in time to prevent its planned closure in 2016.
People have this mental image of Wales as a gloomy place full of scruffy unemployed men drinking Brains. We could turn that image on its head with a big grant from Scotland, or the Lottery again."
