The Tory leader, David Cameron, has announced that there will be a referendum to decide his reaction to the negotiations to reform Europe.
He has pledged to abide by the decision of the majority. Whether to vote for or against Europe is up to the Party. Cameron said today: 'I have confidence that the Party will make the right judgement and I will agree with that view. I believe in majority rule. If the majority of Tory MP's want to leave Europe I will be with them!'
Back benchers within the Tory party are confident that Cameron will be persuaded to follow their directives as he has done up until now.
'If he doesn't' said back bencher Humphrey Cashbill 'we'll either turf him out or all join UKIP.'
The new Tory jingle for the next election is to be 'Puppet on a String'
