Early bird fails to catch the worm

Funny story written by Joe Leff

Wednesday, 14 December 2011

A wary worm deprived a bird of its breakfast early yesterday morning.

One of the notorious 'early birds' was up very early on the look-out for a juicy worm to eat. As usual, its timing was OK, because an early worm was just waking up. "I was thinking about getting up and going outside," said the worm.

Apparently, the early bird was hovering just above the ground near the worm's hideaway. But the early worm was very suspicious when he heard this hovering and sniffing.

So he just snuggled back down in the safety of his hole in the ground, and stayed there until the early bird was gone.

"I was supposed to be meeting my mate later on," the worm muttered. "But I reckon it was better to be delayed than devoured."

A spokesman from the U.K. Proverbs Agency was overjoyed when he heard this. "We've been getting fed up with 'better late than never'. This new proverb will enable people to enjoy a lie-in without feeling guilty."

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
