A film about Brazilian Formula 1 racing driver Ayrton Senna bought Central London to a standstill last night.
Stars Hugh Grant,Yasmin Le Bon,Damon Hill and Bernie Ecclestone were just some of the celebrities who turned out at The Curzon Mayfair.
Senna's nephew, Bruno Senna, was due to be guest of honour, but was involved in a 10 car pile up going round Hyde Park Corner.
Bruno Senna had been running late and had "put his foot down" in an attempt to get to the cinema on time.
Retired maths teacher Eric Nonce, in his Ford Anglia, was involved in the accident:
"he was driving like a maniac" said the shaken Dorking resident.
Mr Nonce wound down his window to remonstrate with Mr Senna but was told:
"get off the road you coffin dodger"
Pensioner Doris Trellis, whose timber framed Morris Minor was a write off, told a policeman:
"he overtook without indicating"
Another driver, unemployed Ed Butt, was forced to swerve off the road causing his white van to go in the back of a police car.
According to an eye witness, Mr Butt shouted at Mr Senna:
"who do you think you are? fucking Stirling Moss!"
The constable driving the police car sustained whiplash injuries and booked Mr Butt for offensive language and failing to have a valid MOT.
