Thousands of irate vuvuzela blowing fans gathered outside the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg last night demanding their money back after what will probably go down in history as the most tedious, uneventful World Cup game ever.
The game, between Uruguay and Ghana went into extra time, following a tedious 90 minutes, and there wasn't much worth reporting in the 30 minutes of extra time.
Okay, there was a bit of an incident when the Uruguayans made a last ditch goal line clearance, followed by a header which a Uruguayan forward cleared off the line using both hands in a not dissimilar fashion to a goalkeeper.
Which led to a red card, and a penalty with the last kick of the match, which would have seen Ghana through to the semi-final stage and a showdown with the diving Dutchmen, had they converted it.
Predictably, they hit the bar, and the bored stiff crowd had to endure a dull penalty shootout, which Uruguay won 4-2.
The fans weren't happy.
One man told us:
"I travelled all the way from Pretoria to see that travesty. I was expecting passion, drama, heart-stopping excitement, jubilation, despair - we got nothing. This was probably the worst game in the history of the World Cup Finals. I want my bloody money back. It was a disgrace. A travesty. Did I say 'travesty' already? I'm sorry. That game has dulled my senses."
More as we get it.
