Officials from HM Revenue and Customs have said that Southend United should drop the 'u' from Southend, and add an extra 'e' after the 'h', as they sought to place the League One side into administration because of an unpaid tax bill.
They would be known as Sotheend, (So, the end!) - if they were to be known as anything at all.
In a statement on the Shrimpers' club website, chairman Ron Martin said:
"So, the end! We are not looking to escape debts."
He added:
"My life has been entwined with Southend United, often taking up every waking hour and I have been doing my best, and will continue to do so, to make sure that HMRC do not take this ridiculous action."
