One of the duo in training

Nicola Minichiello and Gillian Cooke are celebrating becoming the first British women to win gold at the Bobsleigh World Championships.

The British pair beat America's Shauna Rohbock and Elana Meyers by 0.38 seconds after the four runs at Lake Placid in New York.

After the medals ceremony, I asked the winning Brits whether the recent bout of snowy weather in Britain had helped them.

"I'm not sure what you mean", responded Cooke.

I said that they must have been able to go out on their sledges, and maybe that made all the difference. Cooke explained that they trained and competed all over the world at some of the most sophisticated, high-tech tracks.

Realising they had missed my point, I tried again. "It doesn't snow much in the UK, so when it does it must be a real boon."

They didn't seem to understand what I was getting at, and said that a lot of their training was done indoors. When I enquired about the huskies they both left. A few minutes later, Minichiello sent me a text with a link to 'Bobsleigh' on Wikipedia and a suggestion that I should do some research before my interviews.

Still, I think it's fair to say that without the recent snowy weather, it could have been a very different story at Lake Placid.

From the one about getting gold medals.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
