Scolari sacked - Mourinho to returnPhil Scolari, the well respected manager of Chelsea, has been sacked tonight by club owner Roman Abramovich. The "Blues" managed to overcome a 1-0 deficit to beat unrated Southend United 4-1 in tonight replayed FA Cup tie but this seems to have no effect on the decision of the Russian billionaire.
Chelsea have had a minor slump of late and although they are still in contention for three major trophies it appears that the patience of Abramovich has run out and the £1million annual contract for Scolari was ended soon after the game.
Scolari has not commented but is reported to be shocked and surprised not least with the rumour that Jose Mourinho is to make a return to the club he himself was sacked from in 2007.
A return for the portuguese manager would have been unthinkable a few months ago as Chelsea were riding high in the league and playing well, yet football and Abramovich in particular, are unpredictable beings so the events which may unfold should not surprise.
Sunderland and Newcastle are amongst the first clubs said to be interested in the deposed Scolari.
