Fabio Capello, the England football team manager, has been arrested by police in London, over suspicions that he is an Italian.
The arrest was made last night when dozens of police officers raided the manager's home and took away a computer and thousands of documents said to be related to Mr Capello's nationality and immigration status.
Mr Capello has not denied his Italianship, and his solicitor said last night that he was totally innocent of any crime. He is expected to be bailed later today.
British police have come under fire lately for their incompetence, and for making strange arrests, and say they are under pressure from the government to achieve unachievable targets.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who smoked pot in her youth, said:
"As long as Mr Capello hasn't committed any crime, he has nothing to fear, but it's important for him to know that we are watching him like a hawk."
