Britain is the home of Magna Carta and of the Suffragette, the place where the poor man, then Edwardian ladies, risked imprisonment, force-feeding and humiliation, in their fight for and ultimate achievement of the vote.
But it seems that some British males still view a woman in a position of authority, as a sexual object, to be undermined. Rare female referees must put up with less than respectful chants from the fans on the terrace, especially if they are good looking.
Uproarious calls invite the refs to disrobe and/or reveal their nether regions. But it seems this is all 'a bita banter', due to the ref being in a position of arbitration, but, crucially, for being additionally 'pretty/beautiful'.
A "bita banter", from up to 60 thousand males, to one lone woman, might be construed as intimidation, in other fields.
