In some kind of wondrous cock-up, UEFA have decided that Wales and Scotland not only qualified for the Euro 2004 finals, but that they are actually alongside France and Portugal in the top seedings.
Welsh and Scottish fans alike can revel, if only momentarily, in the thought that they did not get a horrible drubbing last night...that Van Nistelrooy did not get his hat-trick...that the Russians played like thugs and STILL lost. They can revel.
UEFA are said to be looking into the situation and are quite likely to fix the error as soon as possible. Welsh and Scotch fans can simply hope that 'as soon as possible' means the same to UEFA as it does to the English FA. In which case then they might get around to sorting it some time after Christmas.
