Bangor, Maine (IP) - Al Gore is well known for his hand in developing internet technology and for his knowledge of the environment and global warming. He has come up with another idea that could buy a lot of extra time for our planet.
He has contacted our science office and proposed that the Earth should borrow the Martian ice caps so as to cool the Earth's atmosphere and this would buy us enough time to solve our environmental issues. This could be achieved by building large spacecraft shaped like giant ice scoops which would scrape the ice caps off of the Martian planet.
A heating device would vaporize some of the ice and create thrust which would power the ice bearing vessel on its return trip to the Earth. The initial part of the trip would use solar sails to power the ship on its trip to Mars by utilizing the stream of particles known as the solar wind.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Planets are already complaining. They claim that removing the Martian ice caps would leave Mars with a less than asthetically pleasing appearance. They point to to all of the debris orbiting the Earth and left behind on the Moon and on the planets man has sent craft to as examples of mankind's disregard for foreign environments.
Al gore countered by saying that if you want to make an omelet that you'll have to be willing to break a few eggs.
