If you want your wine to taste nice it's best to wear a big pair of glasses rather than a small monocle or nothing at all.
Researchers at Spexarus University got hundreds of volunteers to wear different sizes of spectacles when tasting a range of different wines. Some wine-tasters wore nothing at all.
All the wine-tasters had to rate the quality of the wines, using multi-item questionnaires.
Those wearing larger spectacles gave higher ratings, whereas those wearing nothing simply used their questionnaires to cover themselves.
Lead researcher Ivor Weinshop explained that "large glasses make the wearer's head tilt forward, thus allowing the frontal taste buds in the mouth to savour the flavour more fully."
"They also enable people to read the small print on the questionnaires more clearly, and not tick the wrong end of the rating scales," added his research assistant Isla Vaneisswein.
