Facebook announced that it will now track how many comments made by members that are "inane, pointless or just plain douchelike."
In what some call an assault on our privacy, the on line social network will gather data on postings considered ill advised. These include postings of videos featuring animals being cute, political opinions no one cares about, or photos taken while drunk.
Some members of the network are outraged, saying this is an effort to stifle their free speech, while admitting that they have nothing to do with running the site which is provided at absolutely no cost to them. One member stated that "his ex girlfriend was a bitch, and the world had a right to know." Another said he was sure that presidential candidate Rick Santorum was "like Hitler" and had a picture of the candidate with a Hitler mustache "that would prove it."
Facebook officials declined to comment, adding that they were afraid they'd end up on Facebook.
