"Lights Out" For Yet Another One: Dead at 27!

Continuing a trend amongst some of this generation's earliest departures from earth, Amy Winehouse's name was added to a growing list of Super Novas in the murky, distorted world of rock and roll fame this week.

The 27 year old singer songstress with the big voice and quirky style was found dead of an apparent drug overdose in her apartment, an end not altogether shocking after 4 years of continued crisis, collapses on stage, volatile relationships and failed drug interventions.

With her passing she joins a host of other, now iconic figures in the surreal world of rock and roll history.

*Brian Jones, mysteriously dead in a swimming pool after founding The Rolling Stones.

*Jimi Hendrix , guitarist supreme, headliner for the Jimi Hendrix experience at Woodstock whose tunes electrified the Viet Nam Generation.

*Janis Joplin, the Whiskey Throated voice of Big Brother and the Holding Company, of a heroin overdose.

*Jim Morrison of the Doors, from an unsubstantiated 'heart attack."

* Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, Suicide by Shotgun.

All of the deceased have been hailed as cult heroes for their original talents, hell bent for leather life style, uncontrolled abuses of their minds and body, and their inability to control their inner destructive nature while triggering the inner fantasies of countless rebellious youth.

"Talent wasted', 'Tortured souls', "Musical Genius," "Misunderstood", certainly.

But as idols to be looked up to and emulated by today's youth, I think not.

I can sit back and enjoy their special gifts and acknowledge their uniqueness, but they still died way before their time, a victim of their own recklessness, hubris, and inability to deal with life's choices.

Is Society ultimately responsible for their death, , or were they the arbitrator of their own preordained demise?

You Decide.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
