Pierre Noxious writes:

Took myself and a couple of mates up to the Albert Hall on Saturday - Pete and Tig said they'd never heard the Berg so I said I'd treat them.

Thought the Beethoven might cheer Tig up because Pompey keep losing and they were beaten again on Saturday by Cardiff.

Pete had also seen one of my old programmes and thought that Lisa Batiashvili looked well fit and he wouldn't mind seeing her fingering.

Anyway, the Berg's not one of my favourites, I mean, what concertos have four movements? But the Choral's a good noise, isn't it? And I'd never heard the Minnesota Orchestra live - their recorded version is more than half decent.

So, after a couple of pints in that pub down the road we pitched up and settled into our seats. I told Tig to go to the loo before it started - he'd had three lagers - but he said he'd be OK. Yeah, right.

Pete was nearly apoplectic when we realised that the Batiashvili girl wasn't showing up after all (she was ill) - and he didn't fancy the boy Gil Shaham who stood in for her at all! Ha ha! Never mind Pete.

He did a good job, I suppose - like I say, it's not my cup of tea but Tig said he was quite enjoying it until he started to need the bog near the end. Told ya!

The Beethoven went much as expected. Trouble is I can never hear that singing bit without thinking about wizards bringing us lemonade in the Emerald City. Now, that Judith Durham could sing! And fancy translating all that Schiller and making a pop song of it - brilliant!

The story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
