The Baroness Boothemroyds has concocted a top ten list of the reasons why Lords should not have to be elected:
1) 'Taint ne'er been done
2) Let's wait another century or so
3) Lords are born without planning generally
4) The idea bubbled up from the Swamp o' Commons
5) "Elec" and "tion" are 2 four letter words
6) The people are sick of politicians and their corrupt elections!
7) No decent Lord would stand for election
8) Elected Lords would threaten the Supreme Commons
9) Elections would be too expensive and too complicated
10) Elected Lords would lose the independence that congenital lordship provides...witness Jesus
