The Desperate Housewives of Wisteria Lane are set to draw the blinds on their adventures for the last time.
No longer will audiences revel in the misadventures and scheming of Susan, Lynette, Bree and Gabrielle, as sources close to the show say creator Marc Cherry is planning to pull the plug.
The sources believe that next season to be last although its stars are under contract for two more years. Falling ratings and tired storylines are said to be the reason for the decision.
TV critic Lizzie Celery said: "Tired storylines? They're positively comatose! This show's been going for about 300 years and the stories are the same every season.
"Susan's on-off relationship with Mike and what she does to get him back when she's not with him - usually involving some criminal activity.
"What about the Scavos? He gets some ambition to set up his own business, and she wants to get her career back. Then she wants to be at home and he wants to go back to work. Or one of them gets ill... yada yada yada
"And I'm sorry, but whatever Bree Van De Kamp's up to - well she left the world of reality years ago.
"What about the villains? A new, suspicious type moves into the Lane every year and eventually becomes one of the gang or is killed off!
"And they're all too damn skinny!"
