In the past we all loved the drag queens. People like Danny La Rue and Barry Humphries made us laugh, when they dressed as women. Nowadays it seems the trend is reversing.
Lily Savage was a successful comedienne, until she put on a suit, collar and tie and became Paul O'Grady. As Paul she now has her own TV and radio show.
"I sometimes wish I could go back to being Lily but I am so popular as Paul, the public won't let me." said Lily.
One lady who has the best of both worlds is funny girl Jo Brand. "It can be tiring having an alter ego but it is so lucrative being John Sergeant, especially since "his" success on Strictly Come Dancing."
However Jo's sister Rachel doesn't agree. She prefers to keep her two personae separate.
"In public I am the lady killer funny man Russell Brand, but when I get home I am Rachel Brand, house wife and mother of three."
