A story recently ran that indicates Senator Joe Lieberman was the droopy-faced father on the 1980's science fiction sitcom ALF (Alien Life Form). In actuality, Joe Lieberman played the much faster-talking father on the earlier sitcom, Diff'rent Strokes.
Back in the days of Diff'rent Strokes, Joe Liberman was in a constant manic state, hence his ability to move faster and talk faster than he does now. A little known fact is that Lieberman is actually the twin brother of Conrad Bain, credited in Diff'rent Strokes as the father, and occasionally filled in for Bain when Bain couldn't meet his acting obligations. Shortly after Diff'rent Strokes was cancelled, Lieberman lapsed into a depressive state which accounts for his slow talking, droopy behavior we see continuing today.
What many people also don't know about Lieberman is that he began his career in the early 1940's as the voice behind the original Droopy Dog cartoons. In one hilarious scene after another, Lieberman would talk as if he was the saddest dog in the world, but would tell everyone how happy he was.
In fact, Lieberman credits his manic-depressive behavior for allowing him to serve so long in the Senate first as a Republican and now as a (ahem) Democrat. Asked what his favorite role has been to date, Lieberman was not able to distinguish between the acting and the reality of his life and said merely, "I'd have to say being a part of John McCain's life has been my greatest reward. Even though John is a Republican and I am a (ahem) Democrat, Johnny and I see eye to eye on everything."
To be fair to the folks who believe Lieberman played the father on ALF, Lieberman does look a heck of a lot more like that actor than Conrad Bain, but hey, in show business, it's all a matter of camera angles.
