If you're a jazz aficionado, then this show's for you.
Auditions are being held for a new jazz-themed version of "American Idol," called "Smooth Operator." The new show will delve into the wonderful world of jazz, which seems to be underrated these days, thanks to the popularity of hip-hop and Top-40.
New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Seattle and Los Angeles are the audition cities, and the free auditions are open to anyone who can play an instrument (saxophone, trumpet, piano, guitar, etc.) The top 12 instrumentalists will then be flown out to Hollywood, where they'll show off their musical talent. One performer will be eliminated every week until the last one standing wins the title of Smooth Operator.
The show will be hosted by radio personality and star saxophonist Dave Koz, and the judge panel will consist of two more saxophonists (Kirk Whalum, Candy Dulfer) and a trumpeter (Rick Braun).
