The BBC has announced that Paul O'Grady, the chat show host and 'comedian' responsible for ugly Liverpool slagbag Lily Savage, is to be the new face of the Ten O'Clock News after he was made an MBE in the Queen's Birthdays Honours.

O'Grady has the campest and daftest voice on television, and, as he is also a Scouser, was the obvious choice after the BBC was criticised last week for its practice of ignoring presenters with regional accents.

Once labelled 'The Best Looking Dame On Merseyside', O'Grady was also the host of Blankety Blank, a show so terrible, its previous host had been Sir Terry Wogan.

Bosses at the BBC say they hope he will bring much-needed charisma to the news, which has been sadly lacking since Angela Rippon left in 1981.

Lily Savage is 78.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
