The Holy Father of the Catholic Church, Pope Benedictus XVI (Joseph Ratzinger) will be the guest host on Saturday Night Live it was announced today.

As a young man, Pope Benedictus held various positions including lifeguard, Bible salesman and for a short time during his college days, as an amateur standup comic. During this time he honed his comedic skills before audiences in Naples appearing regularly at the Calamari Club.

A few of his routines gained some notoriety including "The Seven Naughty Things You Can't Confess", "Did You Hear the One About The Muslim and The Jew?", "Spanking the Monkey" and, most famously, "Jokes From Hell."

It has been rumored the Pope's opening monologue has been penned with help from American comics George Carlin and Sarah Silverman. When asked whether he had a problem with the fact that Silverman is Jewish, Pope Benedictus replied, "Not at all. I have many Jewish friends. And some of them are funny. "

Also appearing on the show will be special musical guest Madonna.
