That is the conclusion of millions of beleagured Miss USA fans who wept buckets at Rachel Smith's predicament three months ago when press headlines screamed out "Damned Mexicans hexed me!" wails Miss USA after Smith's infamous televised catwalk tumble during the Miss Universe 2007 contest.
Today's meteorological headlines are focused on Mexican plight as Hurricane Dean strikes the Yucatan Peninsula bringing havoc, chaos and - for some at least - a spooky kind of divine retribution for the humiliation suffered by lovely Miss USA in May this year.
The Category Five hurricane may have weakened somewhat but its lashing of the Mexcian coastline has sent the country's inhabitants reeling.
"Sure we'd never wish anything as dire as a hurricane on no one," Miss USA's official fan club sources said today.
"But it's kind ironic I suppose that some see this as a weird type of pay-back for Rachel's tumble at the contest.
"Maybe this is how hexes work?"
Rachel Smith is 21.
