Tokyo - (Ass Mess): Satirical website The Spoof! has been nominated by the Japanese government for the Nobel Prize for Satire after repeated calls to honor the internet parody provider with the ultimate global recognition for services to the absurd.

"This is a watershed moment for our island nation," the Japanese Prime Minister said today.

"We don't have any home-grown contenders in this fledgeling industry. But we know where the real laughs always come from.

"This Spoof! site has consistently poked fun at the world's dictators. Its dedication to humbugging Bush and Blair saves millions from despair.

"The stories tend to be mostly hysterical and use of psychological warfare leans towards the bizarre.

"We also like the apocalyptic and extraterrestrial overtones. But most of all it's Britney, Paris and the Corrupt Bastards that keep us in stithes.

"We are very happy to back the site for the ultimate comedy prize."

A list of other contenders and nominators is due to be released later in the week.

The funny story above is a satire or parody. It is entirely fictitious.
