Northern Rock, the UK Bank which has borrowed billions from the Bank of England when the credit markets dried up, is to be sold on eBay, insiders have revealed.
The bank, whose shares have been in freefall since the news that it had turned to the Bank of England, is rumoured to have a starting price on the internet's favourite auction site of £4.32p (postage and packing £9.99).
According to sources close to The Spoof, £4.32 represents the wholesale price of the envelopes and paper left in the Head Office.
Clive Stutterington-Shafter of Hong Kong Shanghai and Clapham Investments commented that "anybody thinking of bidding on Northern Rock should remember that shares can go down as well as down, down, deeper and down. It would be good advice to pay with Paypal too - just in case Northern Rock is damaged beyond repair when it arrives".
